Easy Street!

Each revealed step for Easy Street is linked at the bottom of this post below.

I am SO excited that it is finally “Mystery Time”!  I look forward to this time so much every year.  It is the one big thing I feel I can to do to thank you for all the friendship and support you have shown to me over the past year.  A way to pay it forward, my way to give something back.

Links to this year's mystery posts will be listed below so you can find each part easily.

It is your responsibility to PRINT EACH STEP as it is given. A "printer friendly version" link will be at the top of each post.  ((It's at the top of this post too!))

As with previous mysteries, this one will be retired and pulled from the website on June 1st, 2013 to appear in my next book.  I will be unable to provide you missing steps after this point.  That’s the way publishing runs!

The internet is a busy place, and there will be quilters posting pictures of their progress on their blogs---We will be doing a LINKY so that those with blogs can share their progress each Monday following the Friday clue.  I love seeing how everyone is progressing!

My other suggestion is to keep up with each step as best as you can each week.  When the new clue is released stop the previous one wherever you are on it ---and start the next step.  This should keep you familiar with what is going on and you will have SOME of each step ready by the time the mystery is revealed.

And what’s my #1 rule?!

You Got It!

I’ll be posting our first clue on Friday, November 23rd!  Now GO SHOP YOUR STASH!

  1. Hi Bonnie!
I went to Lowe's today and picked up my paint samples. Now to scan thru the stash and pull fabrics. Love the color combination. I actually used green and purple in my version of Orca Bay last year. I hope to have it completed before the 23rd. I'll send you a picture. Thanks for all you do for us. "See you at quiltcam time".

  2. I love your color choices! I hope I have them in my stash otherwise I may have to go shopping. Thank you for the mysteries. This will be the 3rd one I have done. I finished quilting the Double Delight quilt top last month and will send to my neice as a belated wedding present. I enjoy watching your quilt cam.Have gotten several good pointers and a lot of ideas while watching. Thanks again.

  3. Wish there was a way to warn Lowe's across the country to stock up on four color cards before Bonnie Hunter announces a mystery quilt!!

  4. Bonnie - this is my first time participating in your mystery quilt and I do not see fabric planning info to "shop" my stash. Is there a post somewhere that tells how many colors, etc? Also, how long will it run? I travel Monday thru Friday each week so am trying to formulate my game plan (which looks like it will be mystery quilt piecing every weekend!). Thanks!

  5. I, too, am wondering like Tammy about choosing fabrics. Did I/we miss something along the way?

  6. Would you give us the smallest size pieces we can use for the quilt? I'd hate to pull all the wrong sized pieces.

  10. Bonnie have you come up with any ideas yet for a logo for Easy Street? Will Forrest Jane help you again this time? I've purchased my gray, from the Architectural Fabrics at Rosie's. Picked up a few 1/4 yards apple greens to add to my stash...I'm ready to go! Sandi

  11. Gosh! Is it that time already? I didn't finish the last one but I am not going to miss this one. Plenty of time next year to finish both. Looking forward to it.

  12. I have never ever done a mystery quilt so I am really excited about trying this. The colors match my oldest grand-daughters room so she is also excited..I just finished piecing Blue Ridge Beauty in fall colors & love it. It has taken along time to get to this point though so I am wondering how does Bonnie complete so many quilts? What is your secret? Where does all your energy come from? You are amazing & an inspiration. I especially like your attitude about making it fun & not getting hung up on things. thanks so much.

    1. Hi
I too am doing civil war type prints. I have chosen creamy white/black shirting prints, light to dark purples, turquoise and last but not the wonderful poisin greens with black undertones. All laid out together they are amamzing. It is going to be a very striking quilt. I can hardly wait

      Delete
  16. Sylvia: you'll need green with that.
Tangerine, purple, and green. Probably forest green, not lime.

  17. Love the colors you have chosen can't wait to see how this quilt works. Excited to start a mystery quilt. This maybe the time I should break down and start a blog. I love reading and looking at projects on my google reader .

    1. I also use blogger... There are templates you can use. Go into options and disable the option which makes responders have to enter jiberish to prove they are not robots. You can insert photos, but i have found that when i hold my phone certain ways, i can not make them orient properly. Btw, i changed to a light background & a very clear font to try to keep it easy to read. Play with it. Let me know when you ser it up & I'll come & check it out. I'm no expert, but I've learned a few things. B

  19. Hi Bonnie, I have debated back and forth, back and forth about starting the mystery quilt with you. I have finally given in. I checked my stash and had very little of the required colours and as I am not very adventurous about changing them I was at a stand still. That is until I received an email to say that Bug Fabric is having a blow out sale. I sat down this evening and order the balance of what I need and a little bit more to make the most of the postage. Thank you as always for your inspiration. You have certainly put a smile on my face tonight now that I have decided to go ahead. Best Regards, Ann in Cork, Ireland xx

  22. We all do it, buy because we are going to make a quilt in those colors. I have been buying Red, White, Blue(in an antique white) now I know what I am going to use from my stash. See we can always find a reason to add to our stash. lol My first mystery quilt can't wait. Double kudo's for the internet.

  24. I'm hesitating on the purple, anyone else? I like purple, don't get me wrong. I wear it! I have purple jewelry, purple flowers. But to me, it seems like one of those colors that is going to be like Mauve and Seafoam green some day. Those colors that will stick out as a passing fad in the quilt. I had some table toppers that had Mauve and I didn't want to keep them. Made me wish they didn't have that color because all the other colors were fine. I guess personally I'd rather have colors that are more timeless. So... Still struggling with what colors I want to use. Keep posting your ideas! I like everything from 2 color quilts, to civil war, 30s and scrappy. I think once I see a block it will help me decide.

  25. I don't have all of those colors or enough fabric for the ones I have and I'm on a no fabric spending diet so I'm just going to use stash fabric and hope it all turns out alright. LOL! :D

  26. for all of you worried about colors or choosing the 'right' fabrics, reassurance is on the way!
In the Dec/Jan issue of Quilter's Newsletter on pages 18-19 there are 7 different examples of a compleated mystery quilt. NONE of the examples shown used the suggested fabric coloration, and yet every quilt is wonderful.
Just goes to show that if you start with a great pattern the color choice will take care of itself.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I am starting with grey and then looking at the colour wheel. I've always wanted to do a grey and yellow quilt so that's my starting point. Then I added red and blue. So mine will be yellow, red, blue and grey with the black/white neutrals.

I looked at Bonnie's colours on the colour wheel and where they were situated and figured I couldn't go too wrong with the same triad with different colours.

    We'll see!

  29. I'm going to join in the adventure, it will be my first mystery on that level, did a small panel a few years ago and that's all. DD3 will have it and she loves the colors, except for the grey, the constant. We are thinking of a creamy white, but I wonder if it will completely change the look of the quilt. And if there will be enough difference from the white with black?? Any opinion .

  33. Ok I'm in -- very new to quilting, but EASY street grabbed me... I have bolts of dark purple, tan and deep green, but alas, no turquoise/aqua or lime green and definately no Grey!! Well I do have a solid tan (or tan with a tiny blue star) instead of Lime, and I do have deep purple, and I've got a pretty large Cat/Dog black print on white... and some other "cat" fabrics.. alot with tans in them -- I want to make this to raise funds for an Animal rescue so I'll keep digging in the stash to see what colors I can come up with to use in leiu of... *nervous* but can't wait!

  34. Can't wait for Friday so that we can start our mystery quilt. This will be my first ever mystery quilt I can't wait. Thanks Bonnie for all your inspiration to us quilters all over the world. Happy Thanksgiving.

  37. Bonnie, I have my fabrics pulled to start Easy Street. Should I be pressing everything now--or is Step 1 going to be a fabric prep tutorial? Are we getting right into the measuring and cutting /sewing process in Step 1? Thank you so much for the new Mystery. 52. With all of the family (nine of them anyway) staying at my house I have not been able to start.. Omg it's killing me...lol. I am now home alone and ready to convert my sewing room back (it's been a bedroom for days now). I finished my fabric shopping yesterday while delivering my darling three year old grandson back this Momma. But I won't get to start until tonight.. Dang work (and dishes) gets in the way of sewing sometimes...lol.

I look forward to seeing everyone's progress today on the Linky thing.

  55. This is my first time joining the mystery quilt. I'm so excited. I got all the fabrics ready except the gray and Black on white print fabrics. I will substitute with my favorite color- Pink. Hope the result is fantastic :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I used a grey (one fabric) and orange yellow (many fabrics) for part one, planning the grey to be the "constant" and the orange yellow to be the "background". Now that you say we don't need any more of the grey - and I have LOTS of the grey (bought the rest of the bolt) and not as much orange yellow (and I've bought the ONE I could find at my LQS)- I'm thinking of making the orange yellow the "constant" and the grey the "background.

Do you think this would work? My other colours are yellow green, turquoise and purple/fuschia.

  57. I wanted to let you know that I linked your blog and the Easy Street page on my blog today. 59. This is my first mystery quilt and I am following your color selection. I had taken a 2 year break from quilting to nurture my two Siberian Husky puppies and they are finally at a point where they will sleep by my feet as I am sewing. 64. Love the colour choices. But won't we need something like 9 yards of backing material as well as the yardages you mention in your intro entries Bonnie? (I was thinking of solid black, perhaps with some artfully-placed applique...). Thanks in advance for your reply, Diana.

  69. Bonnie,

Thank you so much for this mystery quilt. I am glad it was a mystery, I would have been overwhelmed if I had seen it before hand. I feel I have grown as a quilter by leaps and bounds in the last few months. I learned how to do flying geese and shaded four patches and those sitting turkey's. I have developed a blog, and learned to link up. Finally I have found it fascinating to see the posting from around the world. I hope you decided to do a whole new book of "easier" quilts. And can keeps us all busy being your testers with new mystery quilts. I will keep following you through the year and excited to see what other new things I can learn.
